Things That Happen Again: For a This and a That, 1986

Collection Judd Foundation

This work in solid copper was installed at the Chinati Foundation by Donald Judd and Roni Horn in 1989. It is on long-term loan from the Judd Foundation. The work consists of two identical truncated cones that are 35 inches long, tapering from a diameter of 17 inches to 12 inches. The pair is part of a 1988 suite consisting of four sets of paired, solid copper forms, each hand-lathed to duplicate mechanical identity. The entire suite is titled Things That Happen Again, and also includes Piece for Two Rooms, For a Here and a There, and For Things that are Near.

Roni Horn was born in 1955 in New York City, where she currently lives. Major exhibitions include: Focus: Roni Horn, Art Institute of Chicago, Roni Horn, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (both 2004); Castello di Rivoli, Turin, Italy (2000); Musee d'art moderne de la ville de Paris (1999); You are the weather, De Pont Foundation for Contemporary Art, Tilburg, The Nertherlands (1998); Venice Biennale, Venice, Italy (1997); Roni Horn: Zeichnungen, Museum fur Gegenwartskunst, Basel, Switzerland, Making Being Here Enough: Installations from 1980-1995, Kunsthalle, Basel and Kestner-Gesellschaft, Hannover (1995); Inner Geography (traveling exhibition) organized by Baltimore Museum of Art, Maryland (1994).
