Paint Making-January 18, 2020

The Chinati Foundation is pleased to host Marfa artist Nick Terry for a free paint-making workshop from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, January 18. This introductory workshop provides participants with the skills, materials and knowledge to make water-based paints. They'll also gain an understanding of this versatile and timeless media.

Grassland Bird Field Day-December 1, 2018

This free workshop includes three speakers and a hands-on field activity. Participants will hear a lecture on grassland bird research and conservation, as well as gain experience in mist netting and bird banding.

Introduction to Indigo and Shibori-November 10, 2018

The Chinati Foundation is pleased to host Nashville-based teaching artist Aaron Sanders Head for a shibori workshop November 10, 2018. In this one-day workshop, students will learn basics of shibori resist dyeing, with a concentration on folded, tied, and clamped resist, and will learn to dye natural fiber goods in a vat of plant-derived indigo dye.

Film Studies Workshop with David Fenster-February 10, 2018

On Saturday, February 10, Chinati will host a one-day film studies workshop led by filmmaker David Fenster and focused on the Western. Fenster has selected a slate of films that span the genre, from classic to more revisionist and unconventional examples.

Pronghorn Field Day at Chinati-July 15, 2017

The Chinati Foundation is pleased to host Sul Ross State University’s Borderlands Research Institute for a Pronghorn Field Day on Saturday, July 15. This free workshop includes two lectures and two hands-on demonstrations from field scientists working with the Trans-Pecos Pronghorn Restoration Project. Through translocations, habitat improvements and predator management, this group works to bolster pronghorn populations that have reached historic lows.

I Dig Soil: Free Soil and Ecology Adult Workshop-December 3, 2016

Bring your shovel and join the Chinati Foundation for a free hands-on soil and ecology workshop, set for Saturday, December 3. Members of the local USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service team will excavate and examine soil samples from three unique sites on Chinati’s 340 acres. Participants will learn about the formation, nature and classification of the earth under our feet.

Unhurried Phantom: Film Studies Workshop for Adults-April 2 & 3, 2016

Chinati will host a two-day film studies workshop for adults on April 2 and 3. The program is an investigation into the ideas of filmmaker and critic Nathaniel Dorsky.

Charlotte Posenenske adult workshop-March 19th, 2016

Chinati is hosting an alteration of Charlotte Posenenske’s DW series, the installation of large tubular constructions of corrugated cardboard in the temporary exhibition space. The event begins March 19 at 9:30am with a talk by Chinati director Jenny Moore, and reassemblage times follow throughout the day. The workshop is free though pre-registration is recommended. Children aged 12–17 are welcome to join with a parent or guardian.

Adult Lap Loom Workshop-November 7-8, 10 and 11, 2015

Textile artist Suzanne Tick will lead a four-session weaving workshop for adults at the Chinati Foundation on Saturday and Sunday, November 7-8. The class takes place from 10am – 4pm each day at the museum’s on-site Art Lab. Evening classes are held the following week, from 5:30-7:30pm November 10 and November 11, 2015

Adult Art Classes at Chinati-May 2-14, 2022

The Chinati Foundation will host artist Ross Cashiola for a two-day workshop for adults on Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, 2015. The class takes place at the Chinati ArtLab, located on the museum grounds, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm each day. Evening classes will continue for two weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 5, 7, 12 and 14 from 5:30 – 7:00 PM.

Adult Workshop with Bearded Lady Screen Prints-September 13 and 14, 2014

The Chinati Foundation will host Josh Chalmers and Abi Daniel of Bearded Lady, an Austin-based screen print studio, for a two-day workshop for adults on Saturday and Sunday, September 13 and 14, 2014. The class takes place at the Chinati ArtLab, located on the museum grounds, from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm each day.
