Edition of 100 + 2APs
Benefit Edition for Upper Level Members

Erin Shirreff has created a new edition to benefit the Chinati Foundation. The edition, given to each of the museum’s upper-level members, is related to a new series of Shirreff's photographs.

Using photography, video, film, and sculpture, Erin Shirreff creates works that explore the ambiguities that result from the attempt to translate a three-dimensional artwork into a two-dimensional image. She sometimes begins by photographing an artwork or an image of an artwork—the object shown might be her own work or that of another artist—which she then re-photographs in her studio. She complicates and elaborates on this process across mediums to produce images that, for all their surface straightforwardness, are highly mediated (they have been made and remade; they are her own work and not) and composed of different temporalities (they may be moving, still, or a combination of the two). Shirreff’s edition is related to a new series of photographs, Still, that she made for her recent solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Basel, Halves and Wholes.

Erin Shirreff received a BFA from the University of Victoria, Victoria, B.C., in 1998 and a MFA from Yale University in 2005. Recent solo exhibitions include Halves and Wholes, Kunsthalle Basel, Switzerland (2016); Erin Shirreff, Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston (2015; traveling to Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY , 2016); Artpace, San Antonio, TX (2013–2014); Inside the White Cube, White Cube, London (2013); Lake, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco (2013); Available Light, Carleton University Art Gallery, Ottawa, ON (2012; traveled to Agnes Etherington Art Centre, ON (2012–2013); and Still, Flat, and Far, Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia (2010).
