Imagine looking up into the branches of a tree and seeing a bobcat peering down at you! This striped and spotted friend was discovered next to a Chinati building housing artwork by Dan Flavin. Bobcats have a short bobtail, a wide flat face, and a small body with long legs and big paws. The patterning on their coat can vary, but they often sport stripes, spots, or a combination of both. Their cheeks grow long fur and their ears often have little tufts of hair that stick up from the tips! Their choice of food is rabbits, birds, lizards, rodents, snakes, and sometimes deer. Bobcats are shy roamers; even a mother bobcat will move her kittens to new shelters often. They are only found in North America.

With your knowledge of animals, can you imagine and create a fantastical or mythical creature? What does your creature look like? Does it have elements of several different kinds of animals? Where does it live? Does it have special powers, and if yes, what are they? What kinds of details can you add to your creature? For example, what color will it be? What kind of patterns will it have on its body? Lastly, what materials will you make your creature out of? Will you draw or paint it? Make it with clay? Could you make it through collage?
