Made in Marfa 2020

Chinati Foundation Hosts MADE IN MARFA Online

CHINATI WEEKEND opens a virtual door to the creative community of Marfa Friday, October 9, 2020

This year Chinati Weekend will take place entirely online to protect the community and public health. A program of online events will follow the arc of a traditional Chinati Weekend, starting with Made in Marfa on Friday, October 9.

Chinati Weekend will take over Chinati’s website Friday October 9-Sunday, October 11. A dedicated MADE IN MARFA webpage will feature links to local websites with site-specific content that participants have designed especially for the weekend.

We look forward to CHINATI WEEKEND’s celebration of the creativity—and resilience—that makes the Marfa community unique.

While we are still in the design process, Chinati invites the participation of Marfa makers, shops and galleries, restaurants and bars, and community cultural organizations, and offers the following guidelines.

SITE-SPECIFIC CONTENT:
How to make Chinati Weekend online a unique destination in unique circumstances is a challenge and an opportunity to embrace. When Made in Marfa visitors click on your link and go through the virtual door, might they find:
-A virtual tour of your craft or space?
-A discount code for purchases made during Chinati Weekend?
-A signature recipe or technique?
-A scheduled live-stream chat space to say hello, ask questions, meet the maker?
-A scheduled live-stream demonstration or performance?
-A special exhibition for Chinati Weekend?

WHO MAY PARTICIPATE:
Participation is limited to full-time residents, businesses, and organizations based in Marfa, including artists, galleries, shops, studios, makers, musicians and cultural organizations. Marfa restaurants and bars can participate with at-home “how to’s.” Chinati will not host live in-person events or any content that explicitly drives visitors to Marfa for Chinati Weekend.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
Submissions must be completed by Friday, October 2 in order to be incorporated into the Made in Marfa webpage and Chinati Weekend promotion. There is no fee to participate. To register, fill out the Made in Marfa Submission Form on this page.

PROMOTION:
Made in Marfa will be featured in the museum’s advertising for the weekend, including Chinati’s website, social media, radio and newspaper ads. Promote Made in Marfa on your own social media to support our community.
