Ryan Sullivan (b. 1983, NY) is a painter living and working in New York. His paintings are the direct (and wild) result of an open-ended process that is focused on the physical properties of the variety of media he uses to bring them into being. In Sullivan’s work the actual movement of the material becomes the agent of its final composition – reinforcing the idea of painting as a temporal entity, and that ‘painting’ can denote both a process and an outcome. Recent exhibitions include new works shown at Hydra’s Workshop, Hydra, Greece; Empire State, Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome, Italy; and Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out, White Flag Projects, St. Louis, MO.
