Chinati Co-Presents Zoe Leonard with Cinemarfa and Book Signing at Marfa Book Company
As part of CineMarfa’s 2014 festival, Chinati will co-present a discussion with artist Zoe Leonard and Thomas Beard as well as a screening of James Benning’s RR. The museum will also co-host a book signing at Marfa Book Company to celebrate the publication of Leonard’s new book Available Light. All events take place on Saturday, May 3, 2014 and are free and open to the public.
Leonard will discuss 100 North Nevill Street, a new work at Chinati on view through the end of the year, with curator Thomas Beard of Light Industry on Saturday, May 3 at 10:00 am. The talk will take place in the exhibition space, located at the Ice Plant, on East Oak Street in Marfa.
Following the talk, at 11:00 am, Beard will introduce a screening of RR, James Benning’s final 16mm film, at the Crowley Theater. RR consists of 43 static shots, constructed with mathematical precision, of traveling freight trains that the artist recorded over a period of more than two years at numerous sites across the country.
Leonard will sign copies of her new book, Available Light, at 6:00 pm at Marfa Book Company. The book features her series of installations employing a camera obscura, and includes documentation of 100 North Nevill Street , in Marfa, as well as her photographs of the sun. Co-published by Dancing Foxes Press and Ridinghouse, Available Light includes texts by Diedrich Diederichsen, Suzanne Hudson, Glenn Ligon, and Eileen Myles.
Zoe Leonard’s 100 North Nevill Street is open to the public, free of charge, Wednesday through Sunday from 12:00 – 2:00 pm, and will remain on view through December 2014.
