Chinati Presents the xx in concert

Chinati Presents: The XX

All reservations for this show have now been claimed.

The Chinati Foundation is pleased to announce a free concert by the English band the xx on Monday, April 7, 2014. The show begins at 8:00 p.m. and will take place in the Arena, on the museum grounds. This performance is part of the museum’s ongoing Chinati Presents series.

The xx includes Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, and Jamie Smith. The band was formed in 2008 in the London borough of Wandsworth and released its self-titled debut album in July 2009. Featuring layered, atmospheric arrangements of synthesizer, bass, and vocals, the album won Britain’s Mercury Prize for Best Album in 2010. The group released their second album, Coexist, in September 2012. The Guardian has described their work “as spare and enigmatic as their curious name” and their performances as retaining “the mystery of a unique, extraordinary experience.”

Their concert at Chinati follows headlining sets at Coachella and Lollapalooza, sold-out shows at Radio City Music Hall, and an eleven-day residency at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City. According to the band, “We decided to play some shows in towns we’ve never played before, to try out some new things. These shows will be in smaller venues with a stripped down production.”
