Andy Coolquitt
Andy Coolquitt was in residence at Chinati during the months of April and May 2014, which culminated with an exhibition, Multi-Marfa Room, at the Locker Plant—a total environment composed of discarded things found all over the area, and poetic films of him throwing some of these objects into the air.
Coolquitt was born in Texas and makes objects and environments that exist in symbiosis with human relationships. During the 1990s, his life and work revolved around a studio/artist commune/performance space/living sculpture/party place on the east side of Austin, where he continues to live, work, and host events. The publication Andy Coolquitt was the first comprehensive monograph on his work, published by University of Texas Press in conjunction with his exhibition at the Blaffer Art Museum in Houston. Other exhibitions include AMOA-Arthouse in Austin, Texas; Burn these eyes captain, and throw them all in the sea!, Rodeo Gallery, Istanbul, Turkey; The Ghost of Architecture: Recent and Promised Gifts, Henry Art Gallery, University of Washington, Seattle; and This Much, Galerie Krinzinger, Vienna, Austria.
