Matt Connors

Matt Connors showed work at an open studio alongside Ricky Swallow and Lesley Vance as part of Chinati Weekend 2015.

Matt Connors was born in Chicago and lives and works in New York. His colorful geometric abstractions, which embrace process and accident, were featured in MoMA’s The Forever Now: Contemporary Painting in an Atemporal World (2014–15). In his own words: “As my subject matter has turned from the outside world to a more internal and poetic realm, the work, in visually presenting its own process of becoming, has begun to take on these very concepts of scale, investigation, intention, and ambition as subjects in and of themselves, by creating a visual rendering of my own developing thoughts, processes, tools and doubts.”

A number of paintings Connors completed in Marfa were included in his exhibition  at Herald Street Gallery, London, in 2016. Other exhibitions include Concentrations 54, Dallas Museum of Art, and New York Painting, Kunstmuseum Bonn. Connors received his BFA from Bennington College and MFA from Yale University.
