Sasha Pirker

Sasha Pirker, a filmmaker from Vienna, was in residence at Chinati  during the months of September and October 2013. She held weekly screenings of her own films, made wall works, and created a kind of cinematheque during her residency.

Sasha Pirker was born in Austria in 1969 and works there as an artist and filmmaker. She studied Linguistics in Vienna and Paris. Since 2006 she has been a teaching member in the Video and Video Installation department at the University of Fine Arts in Vienna. She had a retrospective, The Thinking Form, at the VIENNALE International Film Festival in Vienna in 2011 and she was represented in Breaking Ground: 60 Years of Austrian Experimental Cinema. In 2010 her film The Future Will Not Be Capitalist was part of the competition Orrizonti at the 67th Film Festival in Venice, Italy. Other screenings and exhibitions include the Centre Georges Pompidou and Anthology Films Archives, New York.
