Marfa ISD and Chinati Present Light and Space Summer Shake Up 2018!
MARFA – Calling all artists
All pre-k through 8th grade students are invited to play with light, shadow, pigment and film during this year’s light and space-themed Summer Shake Up! Partnering with Marfa ISD, Chinati’s annual summer art classes begin May 29 and run through June 28.
Using Chinati’s permanent collection and works by Dan Flavin and Robert Irwin as a departure point, students will make fantastical projections, color-block movies, large-scale mylar paintings, and other intentional installations. These young artists can look forward to hosting friends and family at an Installation Opening party at Chinati the evening of June 30th.
Additionally, Adventure Week will end Summer Shake Up this year! June 25 – 28, all students entering first grade and older are invited to climb, splash and play with Chinati’s Education Staff! A splash pad, a bouncy house, and a big hike outside Marfa are in store for all who sign up!
All Summer Shake-up activities are free. The day begins at 8:45 am, with breakfast served at school. Children then board buses at 9 am that take students to their activities. Please do not bring students directly to the museum. Buses will return students to school at noon, where they’ll be fed lunch. Sign up sheets are available at Marfa Elementary School.
All art classes take place at Chinati and students should wear mess-friendly clothes and closed-toe shoes.
Classes are divided by age:
