About Artists in Residence Program

About
Four to six artists are hosted annually for two-month residencies. Resident artists are provided with an apartment on the museum grounds, a studio in downtown Marfa, and access to Chinati’s collection and archive. A stipend of $1,500 is provided to assist with travel and art materials.
Marfa is located in the Chihuahuan Desert sixty, miles north of the US-Mexico border. Chinati’s residency program provides artists with time and space to work in a stimulating, contemplative environment.
Nominations and Applications
Applications are currently accepted through a nomination process. Nominated artists are invited by Chinati to submit applications. In making the final selection, Chinati takes into account the diversity of experiences, backgrounds, and approaches that artists bring to the program.
Artists in Residence for 2024 will be announced in December 2023.
