Dia de los Muertos Celebration

Blackwell School Alliance, Marfa ISD, and the Chinati Foundation invite everyone their annual, co-hosted Día de los Muertos celebration on Sunday, November 2, 2014, from 2 – 7:00 PM. Activities are for all-ages, free of charge, and take place in the Chinati Arena.

Chinati Weekend 2014

You are invited to Chinati Weekend, October 10-12, 2014. The weekend"s events include open collection viewing, new special exhibitions, talks, performances, the annual benefit dinner and a special sunrise viewing of Judd"s 100 untitled works in mill aluminum. The collection, exhibitions, talks and music performances are all free of charge.

Daniel Turner at the Locker Plant

The community is invited to an opening by Chinati Artist in Residence Daniel Turner. The opening begins at 7:00 PM on October 9 at the Locker Plant in downtown Marfa.

Chinati Foundation Announces Major New Work by Robert Irwin

The Chinati Foundation is pleased to announce a much-anticipated addition to its permanent collection—a large-scale installation by Robert Irwin.

Natural light is essential for the art experience at Chinati. Most installations at the museum employ the natural light of the reliably strong West Texas Sun as their sole source of illumination year round. While the natural light is a crucial component in the viewing of the installations at Chinati, it simultaneously presents challenges for preserving the art works, particularly the permanent installations in which paper is central to the work, like the Carl Andre and Ilya Kabakov installations.

Adult Workshop with Bearded Lady Screen Prints-September 13 and 14, 2014

The Chinati Foundation will host Josh Chalmers and Abi Daniel of Bearded Lady, an Austin-based screen print studio, for a two-day workshop for adults on Saturday and Sunday, September 13 and 14, 2014. The class takes place at the Chinati ArtLab, located on the museum grounds, from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm each day.

Sunrise at Chinati

Open viewing of Donald Judd’s 100 works in mill aluminum and 15 works in concrete at daybreak. Zoe Leonard"s 100 North Nevill Street will also be open during that time. General admission is $10, free for members and area residents.

Sounds Modern: Live Streaming

If you can’t join us at the Crowley Theater for Sounds Modern, we invite you to watch the event online. Video will be streamed live and free of charge beginning at 8:00 pm from the website.

Chinati Presents: Sounds Modern

The Chinati Foundation invites the public to a performance by Sounds Modern of Fort Worth on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 8:00 pm at the Crowley Theater in Marfa. The event is part of the museum’s ongoing Chinati Presents series and is free and open to the public.

John Chamberlain: Foam Sculptures

A special exhibition of foam sculptures by John Chamberlain was on view at Chinati in 2005-2006.

World Monuments Watch Day Panel Discussion: Live Streaming

As part of Watch Day, a panel of six experts examined the past, present, and future of Judd’s 100 works in mill aluminum and the artillery sheds.
