All-Day Winter Solstice Viewing of Robert Irwin’s untitled (dawn to dusk)

On Saturday, December 21, 2019 the Chinati Foundation will host an open viewing of Robert Irwin’s untitled (dawn to dusk) from 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. The viewing will be free and open to the public.

Everyone is invited to Chinati Weekend 2019, Friday – Sunday, October 11 – 13. Over the course of the weekend, we will celebrate the opening of a year-long exhibition of rarely exhibited plywood wall works by Donald Judd from Chinati’s collection, a portfolio of prints by Barnett Newman from the collection, and a new installation of paintings and prints by John Wesley in the Wesley gallery, also from Chinati’s collection

The Chinati Foundation is excited to partner with multidisciplinary artist Rob Mazurek and Marfa Book Company’s Tim Johnson on Desert Encrypts Vol. II.

Exhibition by Artist in Residence Pete Schulte this Friday at Chinati

On Friday, July 26 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, Chinati will host an opening for artist in residence Pete Schulte in the John Wesley Gallery on the main museum grounds. The exhibition, Properties of Dust and Smoke, pt. I, is open to the public free of charge and everyone is invited to attend.

New publication—Robert Irwin: untitled (dawn to dusk)

The Chinati Foundation is pleased to announce the publication of a new book documenting Robert Irwin’s untitled (dawn to dusk), the most recent addition to the museum’s permanent collection inaugurated in July 2016. The book presents and contextualizes Irwin’s artwork through a photographic record of the installation over the course of one year, critical essays, as well as drawings, plans, and illustrations.

Damage and repair of scrim in Robert Irwin’s untitled (dawn to dusk)

Shortly before Chinati’s summer solstice event this year in Robert Irwin’s installation untitled (dawn to dusk), the scrim on the dark side was damaged by an impact. The impact left a 37-inch long tear at the bottom of the scrim. It was repaired with the aid of Chinati’s former Director of Conservation Bettina Landgrebe and Vickie Arndt, a former art installer of the Dia Foundation.

Tim Hecker & the Konoyo Ensemble Perform in the Arena as Part of Marfa Myths

Chinati is excited to partner once again with Ballroom Marfa and Mexican Summer for Marfa Myths. This year, electronic musician and sound artist, Tim Hecker & The Konoyo Ensemble will perform in the Arena on Sunday, April 28 at 1pm.

Judd works in concrete inspection and field testing

Terra Mare Conservation, LLC (TMC) was contracted by the Chinati Foundation to undertake a site visit to assess the condition of 15 untitled works in concrete (1980–1984) by Donald Judd. The assessment was carried out on April 10–16, 2019, by conservators Claudia Chemello and Paul Mardikian, with Chinati's Director of Conservation Shelley M. Smith and Chinati's conservation department intern, Christopher Gonzales.
