Marfa ISD and Chinati Present Light and Space Summer Shake Up 2018!

All pre-k through 8th grade students are invited to play with light, shadow, pigment and film during this year’s light and space-themed Summer Shake Up! Partnering with Marfa ISD, Chinati’s annual summer art classes begin May 29 and run through June 28.

Chinati Community Day 2018

The Chinati Foundation invites everyone to our annual Community Day celebration on Saturday, April 21, 2018. The day’s schedule includes film screenings at Crowley Theater, open viewing of the Chinati Foundation permanent collection and a community dinner at the Arena. All events are free and everyone is welcome.

Musical Performance by Suzanne Ciani in the Arena on Saturday, April 14, 2018

In partnership with Ballroom Marfa and Mexican Summer, the Chinati Foundation will host five-time Grammy award nominated composer Suzanne Ciani in the Arena at 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 14, 2018 for Marfa Myths.

Conservation Treatment of John Chamberlain's Roxanne Loup, 1979

The images presented here demonstrate the general treatment model for Chinati's collection of John Chamberlain sculptures. John Chamberlain created Roxanne Loup in 1979 in his characteristic collage technique, with scrap material he formed, fitted, and held together by quick tack-welds. Before executing the stabilization repair in March 2018, thorough archival research was done to understand how it evolved over 40 years into its present condition.

The Chinati Foundation invites everyone to a special sunset viewing of Donald Judd’s 100 works in mill aluminum and 15 freestanding works in concrete as well as Robert Irwin’s untitled (dawn to dusk) from 5 to 6:30 pm on Friday, February 16, 2018.

Film Studies Workshop with David Fenster-February 10, 2018

On Saturday, February 10, Chinati will host a one-day film studies workshop led by filmmaker David Fenster and focused on the Western. Fenster has selected a slate of films that span the genre, from classic to more revisionist and unconventional examples.

Kate Newby Open Studio and Exhibition on January 1 at the Locker Plant

On New Year’s Day, January 1, 2018, Chinati Foundation artist in residence Kate Newby will host an open studio and exhibition at the Locker Plant on East Oak Street from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Everyone is invited to stop by.

Dan Flavin Building Construction

These photos document the late 1990s renovation of the six U-shaped former barracks buildings that would together comprise the setting for Dan Flavin's untitled Marfa Project, inaugurated in 2000.

Range Ecology & Plant Identification Workshop- November 4, 2017

The Chinati Foundation is pleased to host Sul Ross State University’s Borderlands Research Institute and the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Marfa Soil Survey Office for a Range Ecology and Plant Identification Workshop on Saturday, November 4th.

Rosy Keyser: The Insensate Foot

On Friday, October 27, at 5 PM, the Chinati Foundation will present The Insensate Foot, a show by artist in residence Rosy Keyser. The Insensate Foot will feature Keyser's cantilever paintings in Donald Judd’s unfinished concrete buildings, located in the southwest corner of the Chinati Foundation property. The show is free and open to the public. Visitors may enter at the main gate.
